To conclude the In-salads project, two final events were held to celebrate the work accomplished and to enjoy delicious salads and other dishes with students, teachers, and stakeholders.
The first event took place on November 16th in the beautiful location of “Bosco de museis” in Tolmezzo. Carnia is a mountainous area of northeastern Italy that faces unique challenges in integrating immigrants. A harsh but generous land, which is welcoming the process of immigration from other countries between the fear of opening up to different cultures and the need to accommodate new populations to cope with its frightening ageing population and demographic decline.
Our In-Salads final event was a resounding success: the people of Carnia enthusiastically shared recipes and culinary knowledge with our students from diverse backgrounds, including several unaccompanied minors from Africa and Asia. A Legacy of sustainability and inclusion
Both events showcased the generous contributions of our students, who shared their intercultural salads, blending Italian ingredients with traditional dishes from their home countries. These two diverse events, held in different cities of Friuli Venezia Giulia, demonstrated a shared commitment to including immigrant communities and celebrating their cultures and needs.
What can we say about this incredible experience centred around intercultural salads and sustainable food? Both events contributed to increasing awareness of environmental issues, sustainability, and the role of salads in a healthy diet. Through this project, we have learned that sharing food and salads can be a powerful tool for breaking down social barriers and fostering cross-cultural inclusion.
The legacy of In-Salads will continue with new student classes, who will carry on the project’s mission of making a difference in a world facing significant environmental challenges. A difference that is as green and hopeful as our fresh salads.
