IN-SALADS: Local Activities in Rijeka

The In-Salads project saw the successful implementation of its local activities in Rijeka, highlighting sustainability and cultural exchange. By blending the themes of sustainable food practices with multiculturalism, the project created a unique and enriching experience for its participants.

The first step involved reaching out to local associations in Rijeka that shared an interest in sustainable food practices. These organizations helped us to reach participants for our workshops.

The highlight of the initiative was forming a working group of 10 people, who will participate in a workshop centered on making salads. Members hailed from countries as diverse as Malta, Italy, Germany, Paraguay, Greece, and Serbia. Each participant prepared a salad representative of their culture, sharing not just their recipes but also the stories and traditions behind them. From Mediterranean flavours to Latin American zest, each dish became a symbol of the participant’s heritage.

As salads were made, the room buzzed with conversations about ingredients, techniques, and personal anecdotes, creating a warm and welcoming environment for cultural exchange.

After the workshop, participants gathered around to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The shared meal served as more than just a culinary experience—it became a celebration of diversity, connection, and sustainable food practices.

This local activity of the In-Salads project successfully combined sustainability, community engagement, and cultural celebration. By bringing together people from different backgrounds to learn, create, and share, the initiative demonstrated how food can be a powerful medium for connection and change.
