IN-SALADS, final activity: stories from Croatia

The final activity of the IN-SALADS project was a delightful outdoor event that brought together participants from diverse cultural backgrounds to celebrate the rich tapestry of culinary traditions and stories. Held in the scenic outdoors, this event perfectly encapsulated the project’s essence: promoting cultural exchange and sustainable food practices through shared experiences.

The day began with participants presenting recipes and culinary stories from their home countries. Each dish carried its unique tale, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions and personal memories that food evokes. The vibrant exchange of ideas and flavors fostered a sense of connection.

As the highlight of the event, the culinary tradition of Croatia was showcased with a special focus on Istria, a region renowned for its rich gastronomic heritage. Participants were introduced to the fascinating world of truffles, one of Istria’s most prized culinary treasures. They learned about the history and significance of truffle hunting in the region, as well as the unique environmental conditions that make Istrian truffles so special.

The event then transitioned into an unforgettable experience: truffle hunting! Guided by skilled truffle hunters and their trained dogs, participants ventured into the serene Istrian woods. This hands-on activity not only deepened their appreciation for the effort and expertise involved in sourcing truffles but also fostered a deeper connection to the land and its traditions.

The IN-SALADS final event was more than just a celebration of food; it was a celebration of community, diversity, and the shared joy of learning from one another. Through initiatives like these, the project has demonstrated how food can be a powerful cultural exchange and sustainability tool.
